New Year, New Venues to Explore

1/16/2017 - Laura Tyunaitis

Foodie, Shopping

One of the best parts of my job is getting to work with our partners – the local restaurants, shops, attractions, and organizations that make the Kenosha Area a unique place to visit. Each year, new businesses open, businesses grow and expand, and we get to add to our list of wonderful places to recommend to travelers in our area. This year, we have some very exciting new additions to our list of partners and I couldn’t miss out on an opportunity to share a bit about each of them with all of you.

Against the Grain Creative Concepts
Reclaim. Revive. Reinvent. That is the concept behind this up-cycled, salvaging business. The showroom is full of furniture, art, antiques, and functional pieces that are made from reclaimed and re-purposed materials. Stop in and you’ll likely find Scott Buell, the owner and craftsman behind the shop, working on a project. Watch for classes or come in to purchase materials for your DIY needs.

ArtWorks
More than just an art supply store, this is a one stop shop for custom framing, art supplies, artwork, classes, and a gallery to enjoy while visiting. Located near Lemon Street Gallery and Re:Vision Gallery in the Union Park neighborhood – which is now becoming known as the Arts District.

Bisou Lingerie
Formerly known as Sixth Avenue Boutique, Bisou Lingerie has focused on high-end undergarments and ladies’ accessories. Friendly and knowledgable staff can help with fittings and more. The Europen lingerie lines come in a variety of sizes to make anyone feel beautiful.

Exceptional Events of Kenosha at the Kenosha Woman’s Club
This local catering company is housed at the Kenosha Woman’s Club and offers gourmet food and beverage services. The Woman’s Club is a historic site that is available for meeting and special event rentals year-round. Watch our Calendar of Events for a number of special events that are hosted by the club and are open to the public.

Gateway Classic Cars
Part of a network of nation-wide classic automobile showrooms, Gateway Classic Cars has opened their newest location in Kenosha. Visitors are welcome to browse the museum-style showroom for fun or with the intent of purchasing a classic car. Be sure to visit on the last Saturday of each month for Cars and Coffee events!

glyndy Jr.’s
Located in Downtown Kenosha, glyndy Jr’s is a one-of-a-kind home décor and accessory shop. You’ll find everything from whimsical to repurposed here. Furniture, home accents, decorations, storage, and more are all part of the offerings available in this quaint storefront.

Kenosha Community Foundation and Kenosha Creative Space
Philanthropic supporters of many projects in the Kenosha Area, the Kenosha Community Foundation has helped create a number of tourist-friendly attractions. Managers of the HarborPark Sculpture Walk, participants in the soon-to-open Kenosha Creative Space, and more, the team at the KCF help to improve the Kenosha Area every day. The Kenosha Creative Space is focused on rehabilitation and repurposing of a Downtown Kenosha building into a combined community center, makers’ space and business incubator for creatives.

Mason’s Eatery & Pub
Just minutes from I-94, Pleasant Prairie Premium Outlets and the RecPlex, Mason’s Eatery & Pub is locally owned and operated. With 45 TVs, more than 100 beers, an extensive menu of homemade food, and Buzztime Trivia, this is the ultimate dining destination. Great for adults, families always welcome – and they can accommodate parties of up to 100 guests!

R’Noggin Brewing Co.
That makes three! When R’Noggin Brewing Co. opened during the summer of 2016, it brought our local brewery total to three! The building may not look like much, but inside is a nano brewery with beers that are focused on quality and drinkability. Be sure to check out the Cream Ale, which is usually available!

Serendipity on Seventh
If you love to browse second-hand stores for treasures, Serendipity is going to be one of your favorite new Kenosha shops. Specializing in original fine art, furniture, music equipment, sports memorabilia and more, this little store has it all!

Tall Ship Red Witch
After a successful season “testing the waters” in the Kenosha Area, the Tall Ship Red Witch has decided to make Kenosha its home port. Enjoy sailing excursions on Lake Michigan all season long on this authentic, wooden tall ship. Outings aboard the Red Witch are great for small groups or even corporate events. Private Charters are available with Captain Andrew Sadock, or public sail schedules can be found online.

The Red Oak Restaurant
If locally sourced food is your passion, then The Red Oak Restaurant is the place for you. Located in Kenosha County, this new restaurant showcases the richness of Wisconsin by showcasing ingredients from local farms, orchards, breweries and distilleries. Vegetarian and Naturally gluten-free options are available here. Bonus, since The Red Oak is just a short drive from I-94, this could be your new favorite eatery when in the Kenosha Area.

Village Supper Club
Supper Clubs are as much a part of Wisconsin culture as Beer and Cheese. Village Supper Club boasts traditional supper club fare such as Old Fashioned Cocktails, Friday Fish Fry, and Prime Rib, as well as a variety of specials. Be sure to check out their homemade Cheddar Biscuits – they are amazing. There is even a banquet room on the second floor of the restaurant that is available for private parties.

I have truly enjoyed getting to know these businesses, as well as their owners and staff as we have prepared for 2017. I know that as you visit and explore the Kenosha Area this year, you’ll enjoy these venues, too.
