Fall Fun in Kenosha

Fall at Kenosha HarborMarket

Fall:  the leaves are changing colors, the weather is changing, and everyone is excited for pumpkin spice everything!  It’s getting cooler, but in Kenosha it’s always cooler near the lake! There are plenty of family friendly activities that Kenosha has to offer. My family and I have spent the last few weekends checking out some seasonal spots.  Here are a couple of our favorites!

A year round favorite of ours is Kenosha HarborMarket, located near Kenosha’s lakefront.  The Market will be held outside until October 14th, so there are still a few weekends to check it out!  Here you’ll find an abundance of delicious seasonal treats - everything you could possibly want made from apples, coffees, and lunch items as well.  Another favorite are the beautiful bouquets of sunflowers and other fall colors that you can find in several places at the market.  This is also our favorite place to eat lunch on a Saturday, since each of us can choose what we’d like to eat!  On the north side of the market, you will find the Kenosha Public Museum.  Our toddler loves to play in Public Museum’s Field Station, which is full of fun activities and animals for kids to explore and learn. Admission to the museum is free, and it’s a great place to check out on those chilly fall mornings!

If you’re looking for a place to spend a casual evening or afternoon, look no further than the Petrifying Springs Biergarten!  This just opened up on Memorial Day weekend, although we did not get a chance to check it out until a few weeks ago.  Modeled after the biergartens of Bavaria, it strives for authenticity.  Set inside Petrifying Springs park, surrounded by nature, you almost feel tucked away from the busyness of the workweek!  Along with some choice German brews, you’ll also find local brews from Public Craft Brewing. Long, spacious tables invite visitors in and guests are encouraged to mix and mingle with their co-revelers.  Some food items are offered, such as delicious looking pretzels.  Each day of the week also offers unique special events, such as Friday night movies and Thursday night kickball leagues!  Don’t worry, the Biergarten is family friendly!  There is a large, open field for the kids to run around in right outside the gate.  Our toddler’s favorite part was that it is located right by the dog park, so there were plenty of friendly dogs to pet!  Be aware that the Biergarten only takes cash, so be prepared before you go.  Prost!

When fall colors are your thing, Kenosha has many parks and nature areas that offer great viewing for the changing leaves.  A personal favorite of our is the Pringle Nature Center in Bristol.  Located a little off the beaten path, you will find the center in the Bristol Woods county park, which has 197 acres of different trails and ecosystems to explore.  The Nature Center offers a variety of unique learning opportunities, but also many fun events for the whole family, several of which are free!  Almost every weekend, and at times during the week, there is something going on.  Their “Leave No Child Inside” program is offered both during the day and night, with programs like photo scavenger hunts and Halloween nature hikes!  You can check out their website for a full list of activities and enjoy the many opportunities that nature can provide!

As the summer continues to wind down into fall, remember that you don’t have to travel far to have some serious fun!  Kenosha county is home to several apple orchards and pumpkin patches as well, although you’ll have to wait until next month’s blog to hear more about those!  Whether you are searching for adventure on a hike, delicious eats at the farmer’s market, or enjoying some brews at the Biergarten, take the time to enjoy the beautiful scenery, sights, and smells that the season has to offer!
